Due to unfortunate circumstances that quickly extended beyond our control, it has become necessary to suspend all events at Members Only Club on 47th Street effective immediately.
While we certainly support the efforts of others in NYC gay nightlife to protect the health of our community by pausing their events, monkeypox is not the main reason for suspending events at Members Only Club.
Rather, the Department of Buildings, which enforces zoning regulations and building codes, seems to be determined to shutdown a legitimate small business that pays its taxes and provides its employees with steady salaries.
Despite confidence that a fair adjudication of the issues raised by DOB would result in the dismissal of most of the alleged violations, the process is anything but fair and would likely result in bankrupting the company by the time it was all over.
So the plan is to take a pause, regroup, and live to fight another day — most likely in a brand new space just as quickly as we can make that happen.
And with a fresh, new name to boot — MaleBOX.
